This followed with a BSc(Hons) degree (first class) in Marine Biology (UCT, 1989) and an MSc in Quantitative Resource Ecology (UCT, 1991). Research studies into stock assessment and management procedure development culminated in a PhD (UCT, 1998) with a thesis titled The Development of an Operational Management Procedure for the South African West Coast rock lobster fishery.
Susan has worked in the MARAM group since 1998. Her work has involved the stock assessment and management procedure development work for both the South African west and south coast rock lobster fisheries, as well as for the Tristan da Cunha lobster fishery. Susan has also been involved with the modelling of the various sub-stocks of the southern hemisphere humpback whales since 2000. Other stock assessment work has included the South African horse mackerel, the Namibian seals and southern blue fin tuna.
Susan is married with two daughters.
